Starting point

Does this sound familiar?

Most people who come here have done therapy before. They can describe their patterns with real clarity, and something still stays stuck.

  • You care for everyone, but rarely let anyone care for you

  • You have a good life and feel almost nothing about it

  • You can say what happened to you, yet still can't feel it

  • You function well, but don't feel fully alive inside

That gap between knowing and feeling is not a failure of effort.

Sessions pay attention to what happens in your body while you talk, alongside what you are saying, and to the inner parts that have kept you safe in ways that no longer serve you.

The work itself

What individual psychotherapy looks like here

Individual psychotherapy at Silver Owl Therapy is a 50-minute, one-to-one session on a secure online telehealth platform. The work is integrative, drawing on somatic, parts-based (IFS-informed), NARM and expressive arts approaches as they fit, so change shows up in your body and daily life, not only in understanding.

Sessions stay close to what your nervous system can hold that day. We may track sensation and breath, work with parts and protectors, open image and metaphor, or use spiritual and eco-somatic language when that already lives in you. The mix shifts week to week; there is no fixed curriculum.

What stays consistent is the aim: change that shows up in your body and daily life, not only in your understanding of what happened.

Sessions are with Mariya Garnet, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Extended health receipts are provided. Sliding scale exists in limited spots; ask on a free consult if you need it.

Each session is tailored to you. No scripts, and no one-size-fits-all approach.

In session

How a course of sessions usually unfolds

  1. Orient to safety and pacing

Early sessions build enough steadiness to notice what your nervous system does without pushing past your window. You learn how we will work together online.

  2. Follow what is alive

We track sensation, emotion, relationship patterns, and the stories that organize them. Modalities are chosen for the day, not for a curriculum.

  3. Integrate into life

Between sessions, the aim is small, real shifts: less bracing, clearer boundaries, more contact with feeling, not a homework pile that recreates overfunctioning.

  4. Review and adjust

We periodically check what is changing and what still needs care.

Fit

Who individual sessions tends to fit

Individual therapy asks for weekly or near-weekly commitment. These lists help you decide whether that frame matches what you need.

This is likely a good fit if

  • Function well outwardly and feel braced, numb, or wired underneath
  • Have insight from prior therapy and still feel stuck in the body
  • Want trauma-informed care that can include creative or spiritual language without bypassing
  • Are located in Ontario and can meet on a secure online telehealth platform

This is probably not the right fit if

  • You want advice or coaching rather than depth-oriented therapy
  • You want a fixed script with a set number of sessions and a defined endpoint
  • You need in-person sessions. This is a virtual practice with no physical office
  • You are in crisis or need urgent care, which this practice is not set up to provide

If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8 in Canada, or call 911 in an emergency. Those services are available 24 hours a day.

Over time

What people often notice over time

Change here is gradual and individual. Nothing on this page is promised as a finish line.

Not overnight transformation. More often: a wider window before shutdown or panic, less performing okay when you are not, and a clearer sense of what you need in relationships. The body starts to believe some of what the mind already knows.

Progress is individual. Some seasons are about grief or anger that was never allowed. Others are about learning rest without guilt. We measure success by how you live in your days, not by a checklist of techniques mastered.

A wider window

More room before shutdown or panic, and a quicker return when it happens.

Less performing

Less effort spent looking okay when you are not.

Clearer needs

A clearer sense of what you need in relationships, and more permission to ask.

Practicalities

Online psychotherapy across Ontario

All individual sessions are virtual. You meet from a private space anywhere in Ontario with stable internet. Many clients find online care makes consistency easier than commuting to an office, especially when nervous-system work asks for a familiar environment.

Fully virtual

Sessions are offered online across Ontario from this virtual practice, on a secure online telehealth platform with nothing to download.

What you need

A private spot where you can speak freely and notice yourself without performing for the screen. Headphones help; a polished setup does not matter.

After each session

A receipt is issued showing the service and CRPO registration, for submission to your insurer.

Before you book

Common questions

How long are sessions and what do they cost?

Sessions are typically fifty minutes. The current fee is listed on the fees page and on booking. Extended health receipts are provided for most plans that cover registered psychotherapy.

Do I need to know which modality I want?

No. Come with what you are living. Somatic, relational, expressive, and spiritual elements are available as they fit; you do not have to pick a brand of therapy in advance.

Is online therapy as effective as in person for trauma work?

For many adults, yes, when the clinician is trained to track the body on video and pacing stays careful. If online care is not a fit for you, we will say so.

How do I start?

Most people book a free consultation first. If you already know you want to begin, you can book an individual psychotherapy session directly.

Is there a sliding scale?

Limited sliding-scale spots open as current clients finish. Mention cost on your free consult so we can talk honestly about options.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number, and any specific promise would be inaccurate. Most people meet weekly at first so the work has continuity, then review together. Some notice shifts after a handful of sessions; patterns rooted in early or complex trauma usually need longer, because a nervous system reads rushing as danger.

Can I claim sessions through my insurance?

A receipt is issued after every session showing the service and the practitioner's CRPO registration. Whether it is reimbursed depends on your plan: coverage for a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) varies between insurers, so confirm that wording with your provider before you book.
